High School Math

PreAlgebra - Algebra

Integrated I / Integrated II / Integrated III

Parade – 2008/2009

Integrated Mathematics is a program that teaches, over a three year period, the same material as an Algebra I/Geometry/Algebra II sequence.  With an integrated approach, students have the opportunity to solve problems that are realistic and interesting, see the connections between different branches of mathematics, and hopefully, have better retention of what they have learned.

Syllabus:

A complete syllabus will be provided to students on the first day of class.

Attendance:

Class will be held every Monday that the Riverview School District is operating, beginning September 10.  This includes weeks when most PARADE classes are not operating due to conferences.  Attendance every week is mandatory, due to the limited time in the school year and amount of material covered in class.  Students who are absent will be expected to make-up the missed assignments or tests, including obtaining any worksheets that were required.

Students are expected to be ON TIME!  Class time is very short, and there is a lot to cover.  Even 5 minutes will make a difference.

Homework:

Due to the amount of material to be covered and the short class periods, there will be significant homework in this class (at least 5 hours per week).  Homework should be done over the course of several days, not on Sunday night!!!!  I like to remind students that Math is like a sport – the more you practice it, the better you will be at it.  Once a week doesn’t cut it!

Homework for each week is due at the beginning of class the following Monday.  Homework will count for 45% of the course grade.  This includes assignments as well as your grades for Explaining the Section. It will be graded based on the following criteria:

–        Did you finish/attempt EVERY problem assigned?

–        Did you SHOW all of your work

–        Did you EXPLAIN how you solved each problem?

–        Did you CORRECT  your work using the resources available?

–        Did you HEAD your paper correctly?

Homework must be corrected by the student each week, either using the solutions at the back of the text, or during the first 15 minutes of class (solutions on overhead or whiteboard)

NOTE:  Late homework will receive 50% credit.  Homework turned in after the Chapter test for that chapter is given will receive a zero.

Tests and Quizzes:

There will be at least one quiz and one test per chapter.  Students will be required to retake the test if they do not earn at least 65%.

Grades:

Grades will be earned as follows:

50% - Chapter Tests (Must pass at 65 %, or retake)

50% - Homework and in class assignments
