Dear Parent / Guardian:
Fall is in the air, and school is back upon us! I'm very excited to be teaching the Math 5/6 class this year, focusing on making math meaningful and fun. This class will meet on Tuesday mornings during 2nd block. This year, your student will participate in four units: Developing number sense with fractions, Exploring Ratios, Rates and Percents, Surface Area and Volume, and finally, an intro to Algebra unit - Hands On Equations. Students will also continue to focus on mastering math facts using Rocket Math. Info about what is happening in your child's math class each week, and the homework for the week, can be found at http://www.mcclintic.org/math/math56.htm
In an effort to help students and parents monitor their student's progress, I will be assigning grades for in class work and homework this year. These grades will be based on effort and task completion. Grades will be available online in several weeks.
Throughout the year, your student will keep a Math folder that will contain their work from the current unit we are working on. I will ask them to take this folder home and bring it back each week. You can help me and your student by reminding them to put it in their backpacks on Tuesday mornings. Students will also have the option to work on Rocket Math at home.
Thank you for the privilege of working with your students this year. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me anytime – the best way to get me is to drop me an email at mcclintict@riverview.wednet.edu.
Regards,
Terry McClintic
