Naming Fractions Greater Than One

 

For each problem, use a number line to show what the problem describes and how you solved it.  Show your answers as both a mixed number and an improper fraction.

 

1.  Claire and Amanda are working together to clean a section of trail that is 9/4 miles long.  Write this length as a mixed number.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2.  The Boy Scouts divided a 10 mile section of trail into 2 mile segments that were assigned to various members.  Stephen and Chris’ section starts at the 2 mile point.

 

If they start at the 2 mile point and clean for 5/3 miles, how far are they from the start of the their trail section?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

How many more miles of their 2 mile segment are left to clean?

 

 

 

3. The hilliest parts of the trail are very difficult to work on.  Working their hardest, trail workers can clean 1  miles per day.

 

How far will they be at the end of the second day?

 

How many days will it take them to clean a 10 mile section?
